The venue for the Ladies Finnish Masters is Helsinki Golf Club, located in a beautiful setting just a couple of miles outside downtown Helsinki. Helsinki Golf Club was founded in 1932, and is therefore the oldest golf club in Finland. The course has hosted a number of big tournaments, including The Finnish Amateur Championship each year.
The course is a classic parkland course with a relatively flat layout. The greens are medium sized and include small slopes which make them demanding. The course demands accurate tee shots and good distance control on approaches. There are no 'bad' holes on the course and each hole has it's own character. The course has always been considered harder than it looks and this has been shown to be true on numerous occasions during tournaments.

77 (+6) - and the confidence is back
Not a good round but it was important for Nora Angehrn to regain a bit of confidence. 12 greens in regulation is not too bad but the putter was very cold (35 putts). "Today it was much more fun than yesterday but I still have to work on my game". Nora was striking the ball better than yesterday and this is important for next weeks tournament.
A round to forget - 82 (+11)
What a bad 1st day for Nora Angehrn. She started with three bogeys on the first four holes. On the 8th hole she had a birdie but then an unlucky 3 putt at the 9th hole put her back to 3 over for the front nine. But only then the real disaster started. "It was horrible, my swing felt apart, I lost the feeling...and started to doubt every movement in my swing." The result was 6 bogeys and 1 double bogey on the back nine to finish with a total score of 82 (+11). After the round Nora went to the practice range and did her best to fix the problem. "I am still not feeling confident with my swing but with this game you just never know what will happen next...I will give my best tomorrow and try to regain my confidence for next week." |
