Finnair Masters from Fri, August 31, 2007 to Sun, September 02, 2007 |
Helsinki GC in Helsinki, Finland
Helsinki GC
PAR 71, 3 Rounds
The venue for the Ladies Finnish Masters is Helsinki Golf Club, located in a beautiful setting just a couple of miles outside downtown Helsinki. Helsinki Golf Club was founded in 1932, and is therefore the oldest golf club in Finland. The course has hosted a number of big tournaments, including The Finnish Amateur Championship each year.
The course is a classic parkland course with a relatively flat layout. The greens are medium sized and include small slopes which make them demanding. The course demands accurate tee shots and good distance control on approaches. There are no 'bad' holes on the course and each hole has it's own character. The course has always been considered harder than it looks and this has been shown to be true on numerous occasions during tournaments.

A 79 (+8) with too many bad holes - Nora missed the Cut by 1 shot
On one side you may say it's closer but Nora is very disappointed today. She started very bad into her second round with two missed putts on her first 3 holes. After 9 holes Nora was +5 after a double on the 17th par five. No Birdies on her front nine holes. Nora played not bad but after and she found herself at +9 after 13 holes. There is the change Nora is right now, she knows that she can play Birdies again and so Nora played 3 in a row. Unforunatelly she had a bad lie afetr the Tee shot on the nith - her last hole - which ended up in a double. After all Nora was +7 and the Cut was +6 - If things don't drive your way then you never get a good bounce, that's Golf. Keep going Nora!
A solid 70 (-1) for Nora on day one in Finland
"Just avoid the Double Bogies", Nora said last week and thats exactly what she did today. With 4 Bogies, 5 Birdies and the rest in Par, Nora played a solid round of Golf. What a good start into this week and her first round under Par for a few weeks. Nora felt pretty well after her cold and she has the perfect attitude for the last 4 Events to qualify for the LET 2008 - "play shot after shot and take the good feeling with you, just give yourself a chance". Nora was very happy after her round as she said: "I played great Golf and cant wait to go out there and play the next hole tomorrow". |
