Parkview Golf Club was founded in 1916 and has the proudest of histories, not least due to the eminence of some of its members.
Sir Evelyn Wallers (1876-1934), who obtained the land upon which the fourth hole is located, was three times president of the Transvaal Chambers of Mines.
Eric Sturgess, who won two Wimbledon titles and was SA Tennis Singles champion eleven times joined the club in 1954 and the club became a second home for him - he recently passed and in his memory, the bridge closest to the green on the 3rd hole will be restored and contain a plaque bearing his name.
Springbok golfer Dave Symons joined the club in 1953, and was club champion on no less than 16 occasions, also winning one of the club's four major competitions in five successive decades. He represented South Africa 15 times, and won the SA Amateur in 1967.
Bobby Locke joined the club in 1936 after winning both the SA Amateur and the SA Open at Parkview in 1935. Parkview became his adopted home, and he played at the club right up until his passing. The Memorial Bridge at the 13th hole keeps the memory of South Africa's master alive.

Not the expected move of Nora - this time a bad start into the round
"I started off badly (5 over after 5 holes) and basically never found the rhythm", Nora said right after the tournament before she went to the Driving Range to sort things out. "I believe I fixed the problem but I also took videos and sent them to my coach to analyze", she added. Nora finished with a round of 80 today (+8) and she was pretty disappointed. But anyway that's what these tournaments are for, to know where you stay and what you have to do till the start of Nora's LET Season. Keep going Girl.
74 again for Nora at her very first tournament in 2008
"I don't like these last holes at Parkview" Nora said after the round. With 74 again and a Bogie, Bogie finish Nora is not happy with her performance today. "You can go low on this course" she said and this is her target for tomorrows last round.
A solid first round of the year with a bad finish
Nora was well prepared for her first round and played very solid Golf today. After that break of more than 8 consecutive weeks without a tournament, she felt pretty confident to be in action again. Nora just struggled during the last 3 holes and finishing with Bogie, Bogie and double Bogie, her +2 (74) is a solid result. "It just happened", Nora said after the round and she is pretty confident for the next round in SA. |
